Bruno needs a publisher!

During a filming assignment to Sierra Leone, Paul Glynn kept hearing stories about Bruno, the first chimpanzee rescued by Tacugama’s founder – Bala Amarasekaran.  Bruno’s rescue completely changed Bala’s life and resulted in the founding of Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary in 1995.  Curious to learn more about Bruno, Paul visited Tacugama and has become a close friend and supporter of the sanctuary. In 2009 he filmed and produced this 5 minute film about Tacugama.

A talented film producer and director, Paul is also blessed with creative writing and illustration skills.  Determined to do more to raise awareness of the endangered status of chimpanzees and inspire others to do more for conservation, he’s captured Bruno’s tale in a story aimed at children aged 8-12 years old.  His engaging style and captivating images have brought Bruno’s story to life and the book is now ready for publication.

We’re looking for help to get “King Bruno” published and into print so that we spread the word and do more to protect chimpanzees in the wild. This is a not for profit project; all money raised will go towards the running of the sanctuary and teaching children the importance of conservation and development and raise the profile of these issues around the world. In order for King Bruno to succeed, agents, publishers, marketing and on-line promotion are essential to reach its audience.

If you think you can help to get this story in print, please contact Paul Glynn at brunoisking@gmail.com or contact us directly at info@tacugama.com. Thank you – we look forward to hearing from you!

Another Bruno? God…I am stuck here for another 20 years!

I was with Dr. Rosa in Freetown doing some errands and she was commenting on the fact the Jessica will be completing her last health check and in a few days she will be out of quarantine. We were happy that this is the first time since last year our quarantine section will be free of chimps. Sadly, our happiness did not last long! We got a call from one of our former education officer … a baby chimp has been handed over to them together with an official handing over note!
