Gaura and Bidi. An update.

Category: Chimpanzee, Gaura, Introduction, Tacugama | Date: Apr 22 2008 | By: admin

Poor little Gaura….he has gone through his first knock down! Despite his tolerant nature towards medical procedures, he had to be sedated as we all know dental surgery can be very painful.

When he was introduced to a bigger cage, he became very anxious and started biting the metal bar and managed to split both the upper incisors. Though it looked very painful, it did not seem to bother him, so we decided not to do anything and wait. But recently the gums in the crack started to protrude and Dr. Rosa decided to remove them before it became a bigger problem. Luckily, part of the teeth was still firmly in place and there was no need for a complete extraction.

After dental extraction

It was a fast procedure and all went well. He has now fully recovered and also has completed his quarantine period. He is way too young to be introduced into the naughty little gang. He has to wait for couple of months. Of course this makes mama Posseh very happy as she can play and carry Gaura around for some more time!

Bidi continues to be a shy and timid little girl. You always see her sandwitched between Aex and Gola, who provides her with some close protection from the famous bullies: Simon, Grant and Unmo. But….she is learning fast to stay away from any trouble. Mama Posseh and Abdul keep a close eye on her all the time.

Bidi climbs up the tree as soon as she gets her meal…definetely the best place to be.

Aw, poor little Gaura. Were those his deciduous teeth that were extracted?

I also have little Gaura’s photo on my desktop. Poor one… These teeth extracted are definitive? Will be born news? Bidi is becoming a wise girl and her mate Alex is a very considerate friend. Thank you for this great post and beautiful pics.

Poor little Gaura, he seems to get into mischief any way he can, but at least he is out of quarantine. So glad to hear Bidi and Alex are still best buddies. We would all like to have a talk with Simon, Grant, and Unmo, about proper chimp etiquette! Thanks to you Bala, Momma Posseh, and the whole team there for taking such good care of these lovable munchkins.
