A thousand apologies for not being in touch but this has been a very hectic and exciting week for us. We had the honor of hosting the 2008 PASA management meeting and the last participants left today.
It is a moving experience to have all the African sanctuary managers reunited in the same room. There is always so much information to share and things to learn from each other…. that is one of the reasons PASA was founded 9 years ago, to bring together the African primate sanctuaries and become a family with a stronger voice.
This year, PASA created the Siddle-Marsden Award to recognize two PASA members who passed away recently. We were humbled that our head care-staff, Moses Kapia, was the recipient of this prestigious award. You can read below the press release from PASA secretariat.
The conference also gave the opportunity for the participants to visit Tacugama for the first time. They had a colorful welcome from the Nature Club kids. It was an honor to have them here in Sierra Leone and we hope all the participants enjoyed their stay.

Bala, please convey my graditude to Moses, what an inspiration he is to all of us. He risked his life to help find food for these chimps, what an amazing story. Really sweet the way the captive chimps are sensitive to his plight. Thank you Bala for sharing this with us.

Looks like it was a wonderful and fruitful time. Great to see Doug Cress is still PASAing away!

Bala, when the time comes for voting in this year’s CNN Heroes of the Planet Awards, I’m going to submit Moses, I think he would win in the environmental category.
